For Local Websites

Put Old Town's Calendar on Your Site

A short list of upcoming Old Town events that keeps itself current. Paste one line into your page: it is free, and it links back here.

The code

Paste this where you want the list to appear:

<iframe src="https://oldtownalexandria.net/events/embed" title="Upcoming events in Old Town Alexandria" width="100%" height="600" style="border:0" loading="lazy"></iframe>

It lists the next eight events. For a shorter or longer list, add ?limit= and a number from 3 to 12 to the address, for example /events/embed?limit=5, and lower the height to suit.

To let us see which sites send readers our way, add ref= and your site's name in lowercase letters and dashes: /events/embed?ref=your-site, or /events/embed?limit=5&ref=your-site with a limit.

What it shows

The same calendar as our events page: the weekly Farmers' Market, the annual traditions, and the one-off events our weekly scan of local listings finds. It updates itself, so there is nothing to maintain. An annual date worked out from the usual pattern says "annual — confirm date" until the organizer announces it.

Under the list are two links: one to the full calendar here and one to sign up for the Friday Guide, our weekly email.

The calendar is also published as JSON and iCal, free to republish with a link back to oldtownalexandria.net.
