Who publishes this site
OldTownAlexandria.net is published by Artur Guney, who also publishes the Friday Guide, the site's weekly email; each issue's footer gives his name and mailing address. This is not an official site of the City of Alexandria or of Visit Alexandria, the City's tourism office. Where a page uses their information, it says so and links the page it came from.
A few pages link to arturguney.com, which is Artur Guney's own website.
How we check the guides
The guide pages, from things to do and dining to hotels and living in Old Town, take each detail a visit depends on (an address, opening days, a price, a rule) from the place's own website or from an official page, such as the City of Alexandria's, DASH's, the National Park Service's or Visit Alexandria's. Where a detail changes often, the page gives the date we checked it and links where it came from, so you can confirm before you go.
How the events calendar works
The events calendar brings two sources together. Each week we scan organizers' pages and local event listings for what is coming up in Old Town and around Alexandria. The recurring and annual events, such as the Saturday Farmers' Market and the December parades, come from a table we keep from the organizers' own pages. Listings link to where we found them. An annual date that has not been announced yet is worked out from the usual pattern and marked "annual — confirm date" until it is. Times and places change, so confirm with the organizer before you go.
How blog posts are checked
Since the end of August 2026, a blog post scheduled to publish is normally run through an automated fact check first: facts in it that a reader could act on, such as dates, places, addresses and opening hours, are checked against current sources found by search. A post with a fact that does not hold up is held back until that fact is taken out or an editor releases it. Posts published before then were not checked this way. The check reads a sample of each post's facts rather than every sentence, so it can miss a mistake, which is one more reason we want to hear when something is wrong.
Corrections
If something on this site is wrong or out of date, email info@oldtownalexandria.net with the page's address and what needs fixing. We check it against the source, and if we got it wrong, we correct the page.
Places, not people
We describe places, buildings, prices and rules. We don't say what kind of person a street, a building or a neighborhood suits.
The directory and the housing tracker
The business directory lists businesses physically located in Old Town, Del Ray and Arlandria (ZIP codes 22314, 22301 and 22305) that we can confirm are currently trading, and leaves out medical and healthcare practices. The housing tracker shows Realtor.com's listing figures for the City of Alexandria as published through FRED by the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, and names that source on the page.
